Common questions and insights about this chapter
Krishna reveals He has two prakriti (natures): the lower material nature consisting of earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intellect, and ego; and the higher spiritual nature which is the life force sustaining all beings. Both arise from Him.
Krishna explains that people worship demigods due to their material desires and limited understanding. Those desires cloud their wisdom, leading them to seek temporary benefits from lesser beings. Only the wise understand and worship the Supreme Source of all.
Krishna identifies four types: the distressed (seeking relief from suffering), the seeker of knowledge (wanting to know truth), the seeker of wealth (desiring material prosperity), and the wise (who know the Supreme Reality). Among these, the wise person established in constant devotion is most dear.
Krishna uses the metaphor of pearls strung on a thread. Just as the thread holds pearls together, He is the underlying reality that sustains and connects all existence. Everything rests upon Him like pearls on a string.
